What should I wear?
Generally clients wear underwear while being draped modestly with towels. If treatment is only to the upper body you can of course choose to keep shorts/trousers on.
A bra that unclips is ideal as it can be clipped back up before turning over or finishing treatment. If you feel more comfortable in a sports bra, don’t worry, but it will limit the treatment area.
When treating your low back or legs please ensure you do not wear long compression shorts / bicycle shorts as it limits the treatment area and can reduce the circulatory benefits of massage.
For those with long hair, please bring a hair tie.
Please also bring shorts and a t-shirt as I sometimes employ active techniques / mobilisations / drills that have you moving around more.
You will be given privacy to change in the treatment room and get comfortable on the bed before treatment starts.
Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions specific to your treatment. Ultimately I want you to feel comfortable.
Do we have to talk?
During your first consultation we will discuss how I can help and what you want out of treatment, along with objective testing. During an MOT treatment I am happy to be quiet if you want relaxation to take over. If you are seeing me for an injury then conversation is a must.
What if I become uncomfortable?
Consent is an ongoing agreement between client and therapist. If at any point you become uncomfortable you absolutely have the power to disclose your feelings, and we can adjust or stop the treatment. Creating a safe space with trust is of most importance to me.
How are you different to a physiotherapist?
In the realm of muscular skeletal conditions we have very similar training - a lot of my testing is the same as a physiotherapist’s but with a lot more hands-on treatment. The major difference is I don’t rehabilitate respiratory or cardiovascular conditions.
